My name is Lindsey and I am a pole vaulter from Leduc, AB.
I have some big dreams for the next two years and I need your help to achieve them!
I am the current National Champion in pole vault and hold both the indoor and outdoor Alberta pole vault records.
Many people look at the sport of pole vault and think....what the heck is that? Who was the one that thought it would be a good idea to full full speed into a box with a giant stick in order to get lifted in the air over yet another stick ? But that is what I love about pole vault. I love trying to overcome that moment of doubt, defying my mind which says no and getting rewarded with the thrill of a few moments of air time. I love the discipline that pole vault takes- the hours of dedication: weight lifting, gymnastics training, time spent video reviewing in order to perfect the few moments on the runways during competition.
My first national team for pole vault was the World University Games in Kazan, Russia in 2013. I loved the experience and being able to compete on an international level. I have big plans for 2015!
First, I would like to compete in and place top 5 at the PanAmerican Games this year in Toronto. The standard for this event is 4.15m- ten centimetres below my personal best! However, another requirement to make the team is to place top 3 in Canada which will be a challenge with so many up and coming vaulters. Also, my sights are higher than just qualifying...I would like to place top three and ideally stand on the podium!
In order to qualify for certain international teams, I have to jump standards (certain heights) outdoors early in the season. Since Canadian weather does not always accommodate for this, spring trips to warmer climates are necessary.
Expenses for 2015:
Flights: $1000 (Two round trip flights- one to Arizona and to Los Angeles)
Accommodations, food, etc for approximately 4 weeks: $1000
Training expenses: $1000 (coaching fees $800/year, facility fees ~$200)
Pole Transportation Costs (poles are 14 foot in length and do not fold down to smaller sizes!): $1000
In order to support my sport in the past, I have used provincial funding sources and from my athletic club (Edmonton International Track Club). However, my expenses for training exceed these sources. While I often use money from my own pocket- between working part time in order to accommodate my training schedule and the demand of student loan payments- the reality is, I need a little extra help in order to reach my goals. Every donation helps and will help me towards my goal and is very much appreciated!
